There is nothing extraordinary about people going about their day-to-day business, but it is these ordinary people that become ‘unusual’ when they go the extra mile with their out-of-the-box approach to tackling problems with never-thought-of solutions. These are the people who develop a fine sensitivity to the subtle and are able to offer lateral solutions and new rules to the game.

What makes them effective is their drive for excellence, their ability to emerge out of the fold in their effort to be customer-focused and at the same time be people-sensitive, which makes them successful team players. Results and recognition are not their motivators; their will to make a difference is their drive. Success may not always follow, but that does not deter their creativity.

TGC Prasad presents his book Unusual People Do Things Differently as an inspirational bouquet of experiences and views of 65 people – from reputed names like Mother Teresa, Azim Premji and Mike Lawrie to a service boy, a masseuse and a chef – people who have inspired him and with whom he has had significant interactions. Among those included in his book are CEOs, a director general of police, an attorney, doctors, realtors, a consultant, a sports coach and a chartered accountant. He has highlighted some key factors in each individual’s story, while charting out their experiences and how they reacted or interacted and arrived at the successful conclusion of their mission.

This book is an inspiration and can also be used as reference material for any budding entrepreneur, career professional and students of business management. The anecdotes shared by TGC Prasad covers basic management principles like strategy, leadership, inventiveness, professionalism, process implementation and merit and ‘people paradigm’, which forms the basis of any type of management.

In an interview, Prasad said “the book has three lessons for the youth: to aspire, learn and grow; for working professionals: innovation, focus and execution. When I look at people around me who have done extremely well in the goals they chose, most of them innovated. Everybody has ideas, but very few go after them and those who do, are path blazers. The lesson for working professionals is to be steadfast.”

This book is a must-read for those who wish to pursue their dreams, who choose to think and act different to break out of the mould, who believe in the success derived from constant change and innovation.
