Tata Group, with its seven new manufacturing plants, including India’s first semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat and a brand new semiconductor OSAT plant in Assam, expects to create 5,00,000 jobs over the next five years, Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekharan has said.

This is in addition to the potential jobs expected to create in sectors like retail, tech services, airlines, and hospitality, among others, he said.

He said the Tata Group is in the process of setting up an electronics assembly plant in Narasapura, Karnataka, an automotive plant in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu and new MRO facilities in Bengaluru.

Besides, new battery cell manufacturing factories in Sanand, Gujarat, and in Somerset, UK, Tata Group opened a final assembly unit for the C295 military transport planes in Vadodara, Gujarat, and commenced solar module production in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, Chandrasekharan pointed out.

He also cited the joint development of indigenous 4G mobile telecom stack for BSNL and the development of 5G technology.

On the aviation front, he cited the amalgamation of four airlines into Air India, creating an airline of global scale.

In the hospitality sector Indian Hotels’ Taj brand continues to be the world’s strongest hotel brand, he added.

On the sustainability front, Chandrasekhar said, Tata Group is working on a hydroelectric power project in Bhutan, with a projected capacity of 5 GW.

And in the UK, Tata Steel, along with the UK government, is investing £1.25 billion in the transition to high-quality, low-CO2 steel production in South Wales.

Chandrasekharan said the AI-led breakthroughs in healthcare and mobility can transform the manufacturing landscape and has the potential to transform India’s economy.

Tata Group, he said, is steadily embracing the new industrial revolution fuelled by technological progress brought about by the digital age and breakthroughs in quantum mechanics.

He said the AI-led computational tools will revolutionise drug discovery and disease diagnosis, thereby transforming healthcare in more profound ways.
