Allahabad HC grants bail to Neera Yadav and Ashok Chaturvedi

13 Dec 2010

The Allahabad High Court today granted bail to former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Neera Yadav and industrialist Ashok Chaturvedi in connection with the Noida land grab case.

A CBI court in Ghaziabad had earlier convicted both Yadav and Chaturvedi and the two were serving four years of imprisonment for allotting Noida land in violation of norms.

Yadav was the chief executive officer of Noida Authority in the 1990s when industrial land was allotted to the Chaturvedi-led Flex group, allegedly in violation of norms.

The CBI court had held that Yadav, who is also the wife of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mahindra Singh Yadav, willfully allotted seven acres of land to the Flex Group led by Ashok Chaturvedi.

The court found Chaturvedi also guilty and had awarded him four years imprisonment in the case.

The bail comes nearly a week after the CBI special court in Ghaziabad convicted them and sentenced both to four years imprisonment. The court had also slapped fines of Rs50,000 each on the two.

Yadav has been lodged in the high-security Dasna jail in Ghaziabad since 7 December.
