Dr Dileep Padgaonkar becomes consulting editor, Times group

Dr Dileep PadgaonkarDr Dileep Padgaonkar, former editor, The Times of India (TOI), has been appointed as consulting editor, TOI, marking his fourth stint with publishing house Bennett, Coleman & Co.

Padgaonkar began his journalistic career at the age of 18 with the Pune Herald and in May 1968, he was appointed foreign correspondent for TOI in Paris. He returned to Mumbai in 1973 as assistant editor.

In 1974, he was appointed as resident editor of TOI's Delhi edition. In 1978, he joined UNESCO and was transferred to Paris as deputy director of the office of public affairs. He was subsequently appointed its director.

In 1986, he returned to India and to the Times group as executive editor, TOI and was later appointed as editor in 1988. In 1994, he started his own company, Asia Pacific Communication Associates, which deals in news and current affairs. He was brought back into the the group as director, corporate in 1998.

In another significant development at the Times group, Sankar Narayan has been appointed as chief financial officer (CFO), the group.

S Sivakumar, chief executive officer, Times Private Treaties, had been looking after the finance affairs of the company, following the departure of former CFO G Subramaniam's in March 2009.
