Former WEF chief Claude Smadja to retire as independent director of Infosys

Former WEF chief Claude Smadja Bangalore: Infosys today said that former World Economic Forum managing director Claude Smadja would retire from the Bangalore-based IT firm's board as an independent director at the end of this month.

The retirement is in keeping with Infosys's retirement policy for directors on the company's board, it said in a statement.

Smadja joined the Infosys Board in October 2001.

''We will miss his wonderful contributions," said Infosys board chairman and chief mentor N R Narayana Murthy, thanking Smadja for his services and contributions to the company.

"His vast knowledge of macroeconomics, corporate governance, his simple demeanor and courtesy had made Mr Claude Smadja a heavy weight in board discussions and a favourite among the board members. We wish him the best in all his future endeavors,'' Murthy said.

Thanking the board, Smadja said, ''Infosys has all it takes to continue to go from strength to strength in an increasingly complex global environment and to achieve all the successes that its enormous potential warrants''.
