Government tries to woo yoga guru Ramdev

The government today started serious efforts to persuade yoga guru Ramdev to abandon his plans to go ahead with the hunger strike from Saturday even as the Ramleela Maidan got all set to host the baba's fast-unto-death.

The Ramlila Maidan, which has been booked for a yoga camp, is all decked up with a huge 2.5 lakh sq ft pandal, which has facilities like drinking water, toilets and bathrooms.

More than 5,000 ceiling fans and coolers, 1,300 toilets and bathrooms have been installed for the convenience of his expected supporters in the protest fast against corruption.

The Congress core group, meanwhile, met at the prime minister's residence in the evening to chalk out its strategy.

The meeting, presided over by the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, was attended by prime minister Manmohan Singh, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, defence minister AK Antony, home minister P Chidambaram and  senior leader Ahmed Patel.

The prime minister and Sonia Gandhi held separate talks before the meeting of the core group.
