22 Nov 2023

OpenAI, the company that created the revolutionary ChatGPT, took to social media platform X to announce that they have agreed in principle to rehire Sam Altman as the CEO of the company.

Altman was fired from his post as the CEO of OpenAI on Friday, 17 November 2023, through an internal memo. Along with him, Greg Brockman, the president of the company, was also removed from the board.

On Monday, 20 November 2023, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, announced on X that he would be hiring Sam Altman and Greg Brockman to lead their new AI research team at Microsoft. This sent shockwaves down the AI world, with many deeming it to be one of the most crucial hiring decisions in the AI industry.

Employees of OpenAI had been continuously demanding the replacement of the board since the sacking of Altman and were even threatening to pursue legal action against the board.

OpenAI also mentioned that they will launch a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo.

Greg Brockman further announced on his X social media profile that he would be rejoining OpenAI and would return to coding again.

Sam Altman has also confirmed his return to OpenAI on his X social media handle. He even mentioned that he thought joining Microsoft was in his best interest, but with a newly appointed board and Satya Nadella’s support, he would love to rejoin OpenAI and work towards building their partnership with Microsoft.

Microsoft has invested heavily in OpenAI, making them one of the main investors.

OpenAI has not yet released any further details and has requested patience in this matter.
