Lavazza makes new appointments for Asia-Pacific operations

Lavazza, the Italian coffee conglomerate, announced the appointment of R Shivashankar as director, South Asia and Sanjay Coutinho as CEO, of its Indian subsidiary, Barista Coffee Company, India, for its Asia-Pacific operations.

Shivashankar, will be responsible for coordinating the activities of Lavazza's two subsidiaries, Fresh & Honest and Barista in India, both of which Lavazza had acquired in 2007.

He will also look at the distribution network in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Prior to the announcement, Shivashankar was CEO and director, Fresh and Honest Café Ltd, where he sucessfully helped transition the company to the Lavazza management.

Shivashankar, a B-Tech from IIT Varanasi and a PGDM holder from the IIM-Kolkata, has also worked with Madura Coats, Colgate, Seagram's India, Hutchison and Hutch in his prior assignments.

Barista COO since February 2009, Sanjay Coutinho, has now taken over as its CEO.

He has 18 years of experience in the retail and F&B industry.

Coutinho has earlier worked with Gravis Foods Pvt Ltd, formerly known as Baskin Robbins Franchise Co Pvt Ltd, Pantaloons Retail, Domino's Pizza, Jet Airways and the Ambassador's Sky Chef.
