Microsoft’s Satya Nadella now highest-paid CEO in US

Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella, of Indian origin, is the top paid chief executive in the US, with a yearly package of $84.3 million (Rs525 crore), according to a recent study.

The survey was conducted by the Equilar 100 CEO Pay Study, which analysed the pay packages of CEOs of the 100 largest public companies in the US.

The largest companies are selected on the basis of their revenue.

Another Indian origin CEO, Indira Nooyi of PepsiCo has also made it onto the list. She is listed at 19, with a pay package of $19.08 million (Rs119 crore approximately).

Last year, the top position was held by Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle. He has been pushed down to the second spot now. Ellison has a salary of $67.3 million a year.

The third position was taken by Steven Mollenkopf, the CEO of Qualcomm, with a package of $60.7 million a year.

Others featuring in the list of top-paid chief executives include Robert Iger, CEO of Walt Disney; Larry Merlo of CVS Health; K Rupert Murdoch of Twenty-First Century Fox; W James McNerney, Jr of Boeing; James Gorman of Morgan Stanley; David Cote of Honeywell International; and Kenneth Chenault of American Express.

The CEO pay list was rounded off by the famous investor Warren Buffet, boss of Berkshire Hathaway. His compensation came to a total of $464,011 million.

The study further notes that the median pay of the 100 CEOs has seen a rise of 5 per cent in 2014. It .now stands at $14.3 million.

This is his first stint as CEO. Before assuming the position at Microsoft, Satya Nadella had never been in charge of an entire enterprise.
