Former Karnataka minister G Janardhana Reddy along with brother-in-law BV Srinivasa Reddy, arrested in the illegal mining case, would remain behind bars as a special court today extended their judicial custody till 17 October.

The order from the special court for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) came after the investigating agency filed a memo seeking extension of their judicial custody, which was to end today.

The judge conducted the proceedings over video link between the court and Chanchalguda Central Jail, where the accused are lodged. According to CBI officials, the accused were not brought to the Nampally Criminal Court complex over security concerns.

On 30 September the court dismissed once again, the bail pleas of the mining baron and his brother-in-law with the court refusing to remand the accused to further custody of the CBI.

The duo had been arrested from Bellary in Karnataka on 5 September in connection with illegal mining in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district.

The brothers were moved to Hyderabad the same day and the court sent them to judicial custody till 19 September. On 13 September, the judge rejected bail pleas of the accused and remanded them to CBI custody for six days.
