Western Union Financial Services appoints Kiran Shetty as the country director

Mumbai: Money transfer firm Western Union Company has appointed Kiran Shetty as country director for India, with immediate effect.

Shetty has been with Western Union for close to six years, having joined as head, new product development group for South Asia. He moved into a P&L role in September 2005, looking after the North India, Nepal & Bhutan region and took on additional responsibilities for West India region in August 2006.

Under his leadership, the region has contributed significantly to India growth. The India business has grown exponentially with Western Union becoming a significant and visible player in the remittance business in India. Western Union now offers its service from over 50,000 locations spread across 5,000 cities/towns compared to less than 3,000 locations in 2001.

Shetty commenced his career over 16 years ago when he joined Bank of America and spent the next six years with wholesale banking group in India. In his last assignment, he was working as Asst. Vice President, Corporate Treasury for General Electric in India.

Shetty is a commerce graduate from Delhi University and has completed his advanced management program from ISB, Hyderabad. He is also an active member of the American Chamber of Commerce and the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in India.
