Wipro files a legal case against former CFO Jatin Dalal

27 Dec 2023

IT giant Wipro has taken legal action against its former Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Jatin Dalal.

Dalal, who served as the CFO of Wipro since April 2015, shifted to Cognizant on 1 December 2023.

The exact charges of the plea remain undisclosed, but sources indicate that the case has undergone a hearing in a Bengaluru civil court. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for 3 January 2024. Dalal has requested that the matter be referred to arbitration.

Before his tenure at Cognizant, Dalal held the position of CFO for Wipro’s Global IT Business from 2011 to 2015 in Bengaluru. Before that, he held positions as Wipro's UK Head of Finance for the Europe region and as the Global Finance Head overseeing the company's Energy and Utilities, Health Care, and Manufacturing business units. Later in 2015, he was appointed as the CFO of Wipro and had assumed responsibilities as President since 2019.

This legal move follows Wipro’s previous case against Mohd. Haque, another former senior executive who also joined Cognizant. Wipro alleges that Haque violated a non-compete clause by joining Cognizant before August 2023. The company contends that Haque, who had agreed not to work with Wipro’s competitors for 12 months post-employment, possessed confidential information about Wipro and uploaded certain files from his personal email account.

Dalal resigned from Wipro in September 2023, and in the same month, Cognizant announced his appointment, effective from 1 December 2023.
