Yeddyurappa's bail hearing deferred

Former Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, whose bail plea was adjourned by a Bangalore court to Thursday, may soon find himself moved out of a Bangalore hospital and spend at least a few days in jail.

Yeddyurappa, who suddenly turned ill on Saturday, hours after surrendering before a Lokayukta court, was moved to the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research in the early hours of Sunday, even without entering the special cell at the Parappana Agrahara central prison.

His lawyer simultaneously moved the high court, seeking both a regular bail and an interim one (See: Yeddyurappa files bail plea in high court) However, on Tuesday, the Karnataka high court adjourned his bail plea hearing till Thursday, as the prosecution lawyers sought additional time to submit objections.

C N Manjunath, director of the Sri Jayadeva Institute said on Tuesday that an angiogram done a day earlier showed there were no blockages in the former chief minister's heart.

''The angiogram shows no blockage in his heart. He will be discharged soon,'' said Dr Manjunath. ''But we have to conduct several other tests before that.''

The former chief minister – the first BJP chief minister in south India – was forced to quit his post after the Lokayukta indicted him in the Bellary mining scam. Two lawyers in Bangalore had also filed several cases against Yeddyurappa, accusing him, his relatives and some cabinet colleagues, of illegally denotifying land in Bangalore in return for monetary gains.
