B S YeddyurappaFormer Karnataka chief minister B.S.Yeddyurappa, battling corruption charges in several courts, will continue to remain in jail till November 8, when the Karnataka high court will consider his plea for bail in a second case.

On Thursday, Yeddyurappa got conditional bail in one corruption case (See: Yeddyurappa gets bail in one case, hearing in other on Friday), while the court posted the hearing for the second case to Friday.

However, justice B V Pinto, adjourning the case to 8 November said he needed some further clarifications and more time to study the case. The 68-year-old former chief minister – the first BJP chief minister of a southern state – has been in jail since 19 October.

Yeddyurappa surrendered before a Lokayukta court on 15 October after it rejected his bail plea. He then feigned illness and managed to stay in hospital for a few days, before being forced by adverse publicity – and medical reports claiming he was well – to end up in a cell.

The former chief minister was sacked by the BJP after a Lokayukta report indicted him of being involved in a multi-billion-rupee mining scam.

Earlier, the Karnataka governor had granted permission to two Bangalore-based lawyers to file a private complaint relating to illegal land deals against the then chief minister.
