China has signed an agreement with Germany for 50 Airbus planes worth $3.5 billion as German chancellor Angela Merkel kicked off her China visit, state news agency Xinhua reported.

This is the first aircraft deal with China after the dispute between Beijing and the EU over emissions trading.

The dispute between Beijing and the EU had interrupted earlier deals worth around $14 billion.

According to Xinhua, China's ICBC Leasing and Airbus signed the deal for 50 Airbus A320 planes and also another agreement with parent company EADS about assembling Airbus planes in China.

Meanwhile, China would continue investing in European debt, though on condition of a full evaluation of risk, Chinese premier Wen Jiabao said Thursday.

At a press conference held jointly with German chancellor Angela Merkel, Wen said China would also strengthen talks with the European Central Bank and others to help the debt-laden continent emerge from the crisis.

According to Wen, the euro-zone debt crisis was a major focus of his talks with Merkel today.
