New Delhi: Vijay Mallya's struggling carrier, Kingfisher Airlines, is headed deeper into red than the colour of its uniforms. On Monday the airline cancelled 12 flights from Delhi and several more from across the country. Reports suggest that it plans to cancel 31 flights daily for the next 12 days.
Airline sources have attributed the cancellations to a shortage of cabin crew and pilots, but it's known that the airline is facing severe fuel shortage due to non-payment of dues.
Out of more than 55 departures from Delhi, Monday saw 12 flights cancelled, including those to Bangalore, Jaipur, Amritsar, four services to Mumbai, Chennai, two services to Hyderabad and a flight each to Pantnagar and Bagdogra.
The carrier has also decided to cancel 27 domestic flights on key routes covering the cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Kochi, besides four international flights to Bangkok, according to travel agency sources.
Airlines sources were confirming that cancellations of about 5-7% of overall services till 19 November.
According to industry sources the situation is worsening daily for the airline as on Sunday they had just four cancellations compared to Monday's 12.
