Kingfisher Airlines yesterday increased its international footprint by launching daily direct flights from Colombo to Bangalore and Colombo to Chennai, with Aitken Spence Ltd as its general sales agents (GSA) in Sri Lanka.

Siva Ramachandran, vice-president, global sales for Kingfisher Airlines Ltd, told the media yesterday that Colombo has become its second international destination, and that it intend to provide a "delightful" experience for travellers.

"The warm relationship between Sri Lanka and India has grown over the years, and the introduction of Kingfisher Airlines' new service will help foster even closer bilateral trade and tourism ties. The initial response to the launch of the new flights has been extremely encouraging and we look forward to rapidly establishing our presence in the Sri Lankan market," he said.

According to the company, Kingfisher is India's only '5-star' airline, and the only one to offer premium first class. The airline covers all segments of air travel, from low-fare to premium service, and offers the most flights by a single airline network in India. With a fleet of 87 aircraft, Kingfisher Airlines connects 73 cities and operates 442 flights a day.

The company is a part of the UB group, the largest Indian alcoholic beverages company and the second largest drinks group in the world.
