'No work, no pay' for AI’s striking pilots

New Delhi: Air India on Tuesday announced it will implement a 'no work, no pay' principle against striking pilots who have carried their industrial action into the seventh day inspite of court orders declaring their action as illegal.
An Air India official confirmed that the company would implement the 'no work, no pay' principle against all those who did not report for duty and their April salary would not be processed.
The officer also said the state-owned company was making efforts to raise cash to pay the salaries of the rest of the employees. It would raise bank loans for the purpose.
The flight operations of the national carrier continued to be disrupted for the seventh day today as striking pilots refused to budge from their stand. They say they would call off their stir once the management assured the courts that their demands would be considered within a time-frame.
The court rapped both the airline management and the pilots' union, Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), for their rigid stand and appointed an amicus curiae to assist it in resolving the stand-off.
"It seems that you are also not interested in getting the strike called off," a division bench headed by Justice BD Ahmed told Lalit Bhasin, the counsel for the Air India management.
