The Gitanjali group has decided to create a special trophy, embellished with diamonds and rubies, to mark 25 years of India's cricketing glory, to commemorate the 1983 World Cup win and to honour the heroes of 1983.
The trophy has been specially created from 25-carat diamonds and will be presented to the World Cup heroes at an event in Dubai later this year, being organized by Channel 2 and Professional Management Group.
Mehul Choksi, chairman, Gitanjali Group, says, "Kapil Dev and his team created history at Lords in 83'. It was a match on which legends are written even today. The trophy is our way of saluting the legends that bought the country its first and only World Cup glory. ''
The Gitanjali Group has been associated with cricket in a big way. It had earlier sponsored teams in both the ICL and IPL. After establishing itself as a prominent player in the gems and jewellery industry, the company has ventured into lifestyle and is now making an endeavor to reach a wider audience base by associating itself with sports.
