Planes with advertising banners might become history in the skies of San Francisco, following years of complaints of noise from sky advertising banners by San Franciscans.
An ordinance seeking a ban on aerial advertising is under consideration of San Francisco, despite the patchy success of such bans in other cities and raises questions whether a potential ban would conflict with federal law, AP reported.
Tthough an aerial advertising ban in Honolulu was upheld by a federal appeals court, attempts in other cities seeking similar bans had run into trouble.
Legal experts say a ban might violate constitutionally guaranteed free speech rights, the report said adding that the Federal Aviation Administration planned to look into San Francisco's ordinance.
Meanwhile, ABC 7 reported, the city lawmakers would decide today whether to restrict temporarily aerial advertising over the Americas Cup races. though some mooted a permanent citywide ban.
The aerial commercials in the US have been around since the 1930s.
