Tata in Brand Finance's global top 50
20 Mar 2012
The Tata Group has emerged the only Indian brand that has been selected by global consultancy firm Brand Finance to its global top 50 brands.
In addition, five other Indian brands including Airtel, State Bank of India, Reliance, Indian Oil Corporation and Infosys have made the cut to the world's 500 best brands this year, in a listing compiled by Brand Finance.
This is the second year in a row that the Tata Group has been selected in the top 50. In an improvement of its ranking, brand Tata moved from its 50th position in 2011 to 44 this year with its value also increasing to $16.3 billion this year from $15.8 billion a year ago.
As demand drops in western economies and commodity prices rise, the high level of diversification in Tata business portfolio has meant that the group has been able to generate revenues in numerous areas, Brand Finance said.
Historically, the Tata brand equity has always been very strong with the group having been regarded as one of the world's most reputed organisations for a number of decades, it added.
Technology giant Apple displaced internet major Google and emerged as the most valuable brand with a brand valuation of $70.60 billion.
