German automaker Mercedes Benz has extended its golf association by tying up with The Open Championship as its automotive partner.
The auto manufacturer will provide chauffeur service at the championship and together with R&A, which organises the Open Championship, will provide communications support for the entire tournament.
''Our global golf strategy is based on the Mercedes-Benz principle of "The best or nothing". The Open Championship complements this strategy, and therefore Mercedes-Benz, perfectly'', said Anders Sundt Jensen, vice president, brand communications, Mercedes-Benz Cars.
Jensen added that the company will use the tournament for its marketing and customer care initiatives. ''We will also link the MercedesTrophy, its worldwide premium amateur series, with The Open Championship,'' he said.
Mercedes-Benz is also the exclusive automobile partner of The Masters, PGA Championships and the 2012 Ryder Cup golf tournaments.
