$330 million World Bank loan for improving Haryana power system

The centre today signed an agreement with the World Bank for a $330 million loan for the 'Haryana Power System Improvement Project.' The total cost of the project is $471 million.
The project is expected to improve the availability, efficiency and accountability of electricity supply in Haryana through strengthening the transmission and distribution system.
The project is intended top strengthen the transmission system, urban distribution system as also provision of technical assistance and capacity building of transmission and distribution companies.
The project will be implemented entirely in Haryana, by two state-owned companies, viz, Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited.
The project is expected to be completed by 31 December 2014.
