ABB India bags Rs55 crore Kolkata airport contract

ABB India, the power and automation major, on Monday said it has won an order worth Rs55 crore to provide electrical infrastructure for modernisation of the Kolkata airport.
Under the order from Italian Thai Development Public Co Ltd and ITD Cementation, the contractors for the modernisation project, ABB will provide a complete power supply package, including critical electrical infrastructure and control systems to ensure reliable power supply to the airport.
The comprehensive solution will consist of several technologies including power and distribution transformers, low voltage switchgear, power backup, busducts, automatic source transfer switches and capacitor panels, the company said in a release.
The scope of work also includes complete system engineering, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and overall project management. The project is scheduled for completion by 2011.
The new integrated passenger terminal, which is being built over an area of 180,000 sq m, will handle approximately 20 million passengers every year, four times the current capacity. After modernisation, both the runways will be suitable for the Airbus A380 plane. This modernisation is scheduled for completion by 2011, a company press release said.
