Alstom-HCC consortium bag Rs1,843 crore hrydo project

French energy major Alstom and Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) have bagged a  Rs1,843 crore contract to set up a 1000MW variable speed pumped storage hydro power plant in the state of Uttarakhand, India.

"Alstom, in consortium with Hindustan Construction Company (HCC), has been awarded a contract worth over Rs 1,843 crore by Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) to install a 1,000 MW variable speed pumped storage hydro power plant in Uttarakhand," a company statement said. 

Alstom would supply four 250 MW variable speed turbines, generator units, main inlet valves and other control and protection systems.

On commissioning, the plant would supply electricity to India's northern grid.

According to Francois Carpentier, CEO & vice chairman of Alstom Projects India, the Tehri pump storage plant project was Alstom's first contract with THDC and illustrated their confidence in Alstom's technology and project expertise.

He added with the project, Alstom was proud to support the government's 'Power for All' initiative and reinforce the nation's energy security.
