Apple exiting router business: Bloomberg
22 Nov 2016
Apple Inc had disbanded its division that develops wireless routers, as it moves to sharpen focus on consumer products that generate the bulk of its revenue, according to people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg reported.
Apple started shutting down the wireless router team over the past year, re-assigning engineers to product development groups, including the one handling the Apple TV, according to the people, who did not wish to be named as the decision had not been publicly announced.
Apple had not refreshed its routers since 2013 after years of frequent updates to align with new standards from the wireless industry.
The decision to disband the team indicated that the company was currently pushing forward with new versions of its routers, Bloomberg said.
