Apple fails to block Galaxy sales in US

A US court has rejected Apple Inc's plea to block sales of the Galaxy smart phones and tablets made by South Korea's Samsung Electronics in the US.

Judge Lucy Koh of the US district in San Jose, California on Friday denied Apple's request for a preliminary injunction on Samsung over sale of three of its smart phone models, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

In its petition filed in the US district court, Apple had stated that the South Korean company has ''slavishly'' copied the iPhone and the iPad in its Galaxy range of mobile phones and tablets and that their sales would cause irreparable damage to sale of Apple's products.

"It is not clear that an injunction on Samsung's accused devices would prevent Apple from being irreparably harmed," Koh said in his judgment.

Apple is leveraging a technology patent row to deprive Samsung access to markets for smart phones and tablet PCs in Australia and several counties in Europe as well.

Apple, so far the leader in the tablet market, is fighting Samsung over its Galaxy 10.1 N tablet, which it says is a close clone of its iPad.
