Apple to replace faulty iPhone 6 Plus cameras

Apple announced Saturday that a small number of iPhone 6 Plus devices had a camera flaw.

According to the company, a number of the iPhone 6 Plus handsets sold between September 2014, and January this year could be affected by a manufacturing defect.

This defect affected the rear iSight camera, and the eligible handsets would get their cameras replaced for free.

The handsets had a component that could fail causing blurred photos.

The affected iPhone could be submitted at any authorised Apple service provider for replacement upon inspection for verification of the eligibility of the device under the replacement programme.

The company had also launched a support page where one could enter one's iPhone 6 Plus' serial number to see if it was eligible for the camera replacement programme.

According to the website of the company, the issue applied mostly to phones sold between September 2014, when they were released for sale, and January 2015.

Apple said the phones probably had a defective component in the camera that took fuzzy pictures.

Apple added, the issue was with the iSight camera on the back of the  iPhone 6 Plus and not the "selfie" camera and the cameras would be replaced for free.

Affected users could swap it at any Apple store, or contact technical support to set up a swap.

The company had also launched a support page where one could enter one's iPhone 6 Plus' serial number to see if it was eligible for the camera replacement program.
