Aviva takes top spot on greenhouse gas list

British insurance giant Aviva has topped 300 of Europe's top companies on greenhouse gas emissions. The London-based insurer took the top spot for the lowest greenhouse gas emissions in the Europe 300 Carbon Ranking published by the Environmental Investment Organisation (EIO).
Another insurance company RSA was placed among the top 10 which also included investment firm Man Group.
However, British cruise ship operator Carnival, which owns P&O cruises and London-based oil and gas drilling firm Ensco were placed at the bottom list of 10 firms with the highest carbon emissions.
The EIO, is a UK-based independent non-profit research body, which ranks companies on their public reporting of emissions.
The top three non-financial companies were Switzerland's leading telecoms provider Swisscom, followed by Finnish mobile phone giant Nokia, and broadcasting giant BSkyB.
According to Sam Gill, EIO operational director, "Despite most companies producing corporate social responsibility reports there remains a remarkable lack of transparency and clarity in greenhouse gas emissions reporting."
