India's second largest two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto today posted a 66 per cent jump in motorcycle sales to 2,79,781 units in July. The company had sold 1,68,163 units in same month last year, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL) said in a statement.

BAL's exports were up 56 per cent at 1,06,794 units in July, 2010, as against 68,585 units in July, 2009.

Even as production suffered somewhat due to constraints, "export sales continued to be ahead of plan," according to BAL.

BAL posted a 60 per cent increase in three-wheeler sales last month at 38,634 units as against 24,104 units during the same month last year.

The company's total vehicle sales stood at 3,18, 415 units as against 1,92,835 units in the same period a year ago, a growth of 65 per cent, according to the company statement.

Speaking to CNBC-TV18 on the upbeat sales figures, Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto, said there were some production constraints in July.
He however added that the production constraints would not affect the FY11 sales target of 4 million.

He said Bajaj was hopeful of reaching 3 lakh motorcycle sales in August. "We aim to touch the 3.25 lakh mark in September."
