Speaking on the occasion, Sudhir Rao, managing director, Bartronics India, said the use of biometrics (automated methods of verifying or recognising the identity of a living person based on a physiological or behavioural characteristic) has been increasing over the years all over the world.
In India too, biometric-based identification is fast catching up. BIL has been providing solutions based on biometrics for the past three years. Recently, BIL tied up with emBiosys Pte Ltd, a Singapore based company for introduction of Fused Biometric System in the Indian market. This has resulted in introduction of Multi Layered Embedded Fused Biometric Security System and Touchless Finger Print System in India, he said.
While these two technologies enable use of multiple biometric features for identification purposes and are ideal for addressing the security needs in today''s increasingly insecure environment, the former product offers solution for authentication, authorisation, verification and identification management.
It provides integrated support for smart cards, tokens and biometric (voice, iris, vein, face, hand, fingerprint and signature) identifiers, enabling the implementation of context-sensitive, strong multi-layered authentication and authorisations policies to securely access, physical, client-server, legacy and web-based applications with privacy and convenience, Rao added.
Speaking about the Touchless Fingerprint System, Rao said that it is an outcome of drawbacks of the existing finger print scanners. "This new technology overcomes the problems faced in old system. This latest technology incorporates a contact less finger print sensor, unlike the old one where one needs to touch to recognise and verify the identification. This new technology will now reduce the reading time and failure rate. The success rate is also very high even in the harsh environments such as oil, grease and water."
