Power and automation technology group ABB, today said Saudi Arabia's national power transmission and distribution operator Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) had awarded it a $144-million order to construct new sub stations and upgrade existing ones to raise power distribution in the region. The orders were booked in the second quarter.
In addition to upgrading sub stations in Riyadh and Hail, ABB will be responsible for the engineering, design, supply, installation and commissioning of a new 380 / 230 kilovolt (kV) substation in Wasit to facilitate power supplies in the Eastern region.
ABB will also build the 132 kV sub station at Roikbah in east Najran to help ensure that the Medical City in Jizan receives uninterrupted power supplies and a second 132kV substation in Buriadah.
ABB will also undertake the expansion of the Jizan Central and South Khamis Imshate substations.
Japanese pump manufacturer, Torishima Pump, has contracted ABB to provide a turnkey electrical control and instrumentation solution for a new pumping station under construction in Saudi Arabia. The deal is valued at $15 million. Yesterday, ABB won an order worth more than $30 million from Saipem S.p.A. and Samsung Engineering Co. Ltd to provide a range of power and automation equipment for a natural gas processing plant in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.
The plant is located in the Shah natural gas field 180 kilometers southwest of Abu Dhabi city, and has a daily production target of one billion cubic feet of sour gas.
Abu Dhabi is developing its sour, or high sulfur, gas reserves as domestic power consumption soars. The hydrogen sulfide content of the gas must be reduced to acceptable levels before it can be used.
For this project ABB Italy and ABB South Korea will supply low voltage switchgear, intelligent motor control units and variable frequency drives.
