BHEL meets production targets; remains upbeat despite the slump

State-owned power equipment maker Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has said its boiler auxiliaries plant at Vellore had achieved an all-time high turnover of Rs2,000 crore in 2008-09.
During the fiscal year, its profit before tax stood at Rs253 crore, the company said in a release.
Dispatches stood at 1.9 lakh tonnes, which was 30 per cent higher compared to the previous fiscal. The growth rate was 26 per cent and the company received orders worth about Rs3,700 crore, while the total outstanding orders stood at about Rs6,500 crore, the release added.
BHEL said the unit's export turnover had increased by 40 per cent over last year garnering Rs28 crore in 2008-09. The value addition per employee also increased to Rs19.79 lakh, showing an increase of 19 per cent year on year, the release said.
Earlier on Saturday, BHEL said its Ramachandrapuram unit in Hyderabad achieved a record turnover of Rs3,934 crore in 2008-09, a rise of 27 per cent over last year's production.
"The unit earned a profit of Rs756 crore," K L Vasudeva Rao, executive director of the unit, told reporters in Bangalore. He added that despite the global recession and difficult financial conditions in the Indian market, BHEL has scaled new heights in performance on all fronts - production, cash collection, introduction of new technologies, product development and process improvements.
The unit is targeting revenues of Rs5,432 crore for fiscal 2010, he said.
