BHEL to build 1,200 MW thermal power plant contract in Chhatisgarh

BHEL has bagged another contract from independent power producer Visa power Ltd for putting up a 1,200 MW (2x600 MW) thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh. Visa Power is part of Kolkata-headquartered Visa Group, with diversified interests in steel, power and trade logistics.

The contract, worth Rs2,665 crore, covers supply and installation of the main plant package for Visa Power's coal-based thermal power project in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.

The scope of work covers design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of boilers, steam turbines and turbo-generators along with state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation (C&I) and other associated auxiliaries.

In addition to the power plant in Chhattisgarh, Visa says it is also executing a 1,320 MW thermal power plant in Orissa and plans to put up a 1,320 MW integrated power plant in Gujarat using imported coal and a 2,500 MW thermal power plant in Jharkhand.

During fiscal 2009-10, BHEL has secured 14,689 MW worth of equipment from private power utilities, of the total orders of 16,689 MW for power plant that it has received
