BHEL to build Rs1,395-crore material handling system for NMDC

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged a Rs1,395 crore contract from National Mineral Development Corp (NMDC) for setting up a raw material handling system for its integrated steel plant at Nagarnar in Chhattisgarh.

The turnkey contract covers execution of a system for receiving raw material, perform wagon tippling, crushing, storage and feed operations for the 3MTPA, BHEL said in a statement today.

BHEL claims this to its largest order so far for a material handling package.

The execution of the contract would be tasked to BHEL's Industrial Systems Group that handles orders for bulk material handling like coal and ash handling systems for thermal power plants, raw material handling and balance of plant equipment for hydro projects.

The contract was signed by G Viswakarma, ED (Steel Plant) for NMDC while UN Singh GM, signed on behalf of BHEL. Rana Som, CMD, NMDC and BPRao, CMD, BHEL were the other dignitaries present at the signing.

According to Som, the proposed 3 MTPA steel plant would be the fastest moving steel plant project among all green field or brown field projects in the country.

According to Rao, BHEL's group at Bangalore was fully geared to complete the challenging project well within the stipulated time of 30 months.

The raw material handling system would be capable of handling 10 MT/year of raw material catering to the different units of the NMDC steel plant.
