BHEL to expand capacity

Chennai: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), is presently implementing projects to expand its annual capacity from 6,000 MW per annum to 10,000 MW per annum. The expansion will be completed by 2007.
Of its 65 per cent share in the power sector, BHEL is likely to have an order book position of 39,000 MW during the 11th Five Year Plan period — an average of around 7,800 MW per annum.
The capacity addition programme, which is under finalisation for the 11th Five Year Plan envisages capacity addition of around 60,000 MW during the five-year period.
In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Sontosh Mohan Dev, union minister for heavy industries and public enterprises disclosed that out of the envisaged 60,000 MW of capacity addition, BHEL had so far received orders for about 12,000 MW, while other suppliers had received orders for 14,000 MW.
