Smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry has slashed prices of its Z10 handset to Rs17,990 under a limited period offer. This is a reduction of about Rs12,000 from the present Rs29,990.

The offer has a validity of 60 days, starting immediately.

This special offer reiterates BlackBerry's commitment towards the Indian market by offering attractive price points for its BlackBerry 10 smartphones, the company said in a statement.

''BlackBerry has a vast and loyal user base in India and we're keen to provide these consumers with the unique communication experience that BlackBerry 10 offers. This commemorative offer puts the BlackBerry Z10 at Rs17,990 and will ensure users are able to enjoy the cutting edge experience of a full-touch device combined with a revolutionary operating system – all at an attractive price point,'' Sunil Lalvani, Managing Director India for BlackBerry said.

In February 2013, BlackBerry launched the Z10 handsets in India with a price tag of Rs43,490, following its global launch in January. The handset runs on the company's new operating system (OS) BlackBerry10 (BB10) and was later followed up by the immediate launch of Q10 and range of phones running on BB10.

BlackBerry had also launched an equated monthly installment (EMI) schemes for Z10, and later in September 2013, the company slashed the prices of Z10 to Rs29,990. This 30 per cent reduction, compared with its launch price of Rs43,490, was targeting the festival sales that start from October in India.

The smartphone manufacturer then launched the Q5 in July, the prices of which were slashed by about 20 per cent in January this year by 20 per cent to Rs19,990 from Rs24,990.
