BlackBerry slashes Z10 prices to Rs 29,990 under limited offer

Targeting festival sales that start from October in India, BlackBerry has slashed the prices of its smartphone Z10 to Rs29,990. This is a 30 per cent reduction compared with its launch price of Rs43,490.

BlackBerry expects the price reduction to deepen its penetration of the Indian market at a time the Ontario-based company is reported to be holding nearly $1 billion worth of unsold smartphones, mostly its Z10 touch-screen smartphones (See: BlackBerry to post nearly $1 bn Q2 loss, cut 4,500 jobs).

''We continue to leverage festive season with relevant product and services promotions. BlackBerry 10 platform offers a new and unique mobile communication experience and at Rs29,999 the BlackBerry Z10 smartphone is uniquely positioned to change the way in which our customers view mobile technology,'' said Sunil Lalvani, managing director India for BlackBerry.

In February, the Canadian handset manufacturer launched the Z10 in India with a price tag of Rs43,490, following its global launch in January. The handset runs on the company's new operating system (OS) BlackBerry10 (BB10).

BB10 has a touch-screen phone with features a 1.5GHz dual core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and an expandable memory card of up to 64GB.

It includes high density pixel and screen technology to display clear, sharp and incredibly vivid images. It features a micro HDMI out port for presentations, and advanced sensors such near field communications to support mobile payments and the exchange of information with a tap of the smartphone, and comes with a removable battery.

A predictive text, BlackBerry Messenger with voice calling, Time Shift (an advanced camera feature), Remember (memos and tasks) and BlackBerry World storefront which has over 70,000 applications are among other features.

It supports content in eight Indian languages – Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Devanagiri (Hindi), Gurmukhi (Punjabi), Gujarati, and Bengali – and third-party solutions for Indian language input.
