BMW to recall 9,200 cars over defective cooling pump

German luxury carmaker BMW AG is recalling 9,200 BMW and Mini cars worldwide over defective cooling pump.
The Munich-based company yesterday that it is recalling eight- and 12-cylinder versions of the BMW 5, 6, 7, X5 and X6 series and the Mini Cooper S and Mini John Cooper Works models. Most of the cars were produced in March and April 2011.
BMW said that the circuit board for the auxiliary water pump could overheat, leading to "a smoldering of the pump or an engine compartment or vehicle fire."
The company said that the problem has arisen only in one or two cases.
BMW will start issuing the recall this month, and dealers will replace the auxiliary water pump free of charge.
The recall comes after BMW last week said that it will recall 414 BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce cars imported into China over defective electronic pumps that could potentially cause a fire.
