A telecom tariff war seems to have started afresh with state-owned telecom operator BSNL trying to match Reliance Jio’s tariffs with a Rs349 pre-paid plan that comes with a validity of 54 days and offers unlimited voice calls.
Priced at Rs349 for 54 days, the plan comes with 54 GB of data, and offers unlimited voice calls to its subscribers. The plan is available pan-India via STV (special tariff voucher), that also offers 100 free SMS daily.
While the offer matches 1GB daily data plans of other service providers, BSNL is yet to catch up on high-speed 4G connectivity. BSNL, which is still stuck on 3G network, is soon expected to roll-out 4G services.
BSNL’s new plan also falls far short of Reliance Jio’s Rs349 plan, which comes with a validity of 70 days, offers daily data of 1.5GB, meaning you can download up to 105GB data. The plan also offers unlimited local and national voice calls, 100 SMS per day, and a complimentary subscription to Jio suite of apps, which includes JioTV, JioMovies and JioMusic among other apps.
BSNL also recently unveiled two other plans priced at Rs99 and Rs319 with unlimited voice calls and unlimited roaming. The Rs99 plan comes with 26 days validity, whereas the Rs 319 plan offers 90 days validity. The plan also includes free caller tune service, but it does not come with any free data.
