Communications and IT minister Dayanidhi Maran's One India tariff rates of Rs 1 per call will come into effect from tomorrow once telecom PSU BSNL formally announces the One India tariffs.

While long distance calling rates will plummet to Re 1 one for STD and local calls, phone rentals are expected to go up. The new pulse rates for local calls will be three minutes while that for STD will be one minute.

The government had earlier said that the One India Plan to be launched on January 1, 2006, would have a flat call rate of Re 1 to any part of the country, which was postponed twice as the Access Deficit Charge (ADC) Component had to be revised by TRAI.

The new ADC being worked out by TRAI will be based on a revenue sharing model and is expected to be the same 4-6 per cent for STD calls in the new regime. The ADC amount being paid to BSNL for rural telephony is expected to be maintained at Rs 5,000 crore a year.
