Cairn raises Rajasthan crude potential to 6.5 billion barrels

Cairn India has revised the potential in place crude reserves at its Rajasthan block to be around 6.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). The company has also revised the prospective crude resource base at Rajasthan to an estimated 2.5 billion BOE.

Cairn's discovered crude resource base in Rajasthan has increased from 3.7 billion BOE to 4 billion BOE, Cairn said in a release.

Cairn now estimates production at the Rajasthan field to go up to 240,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd), subject to government approval and additional investments.

The first production train at the Mangala processing terminal (MPT) is currently producing 20,000 bopd of crude. The second and third trains at Mangala, with a combined capacity of 100,000 bopd, is expected to be ready in the second quarter of 2010.

The entire pipeline section from the Mangala processing terminal to Salaya will be commissioned before June 2010, the release said, adding that work on the final delivery infrastructure to each buyer is also nearing completion.

Cairn said it would ramp up production at the Mangala processing terminal to the approved plateau of 125,000 bopd in the second quarter of the current calendar year. Mangala can be developed further to a production potential of 150,000 bopd, subject to government approval and additional sales arrangements, Cairn said.
