Citibank scam accused Shiv Raj Puri destroyed evidence: Police

Citibank scam main accused, Shiv Raj Puri, had tried his best to eliminate all pieces of before surrendering to the city court on 30 December it has come to light. According to highly placed sources in Gurgaon, Puri destroyed the iPad allegedly containing incriminating data before he surfaced.
Meanwhile, police had been able to get Puri's police custody extended by six days in hopes of recovering his iPad, which they believe contained details of his transactions and mails and could prove helpful in unravelling more secrets of the accused.
According to sources, Puri destroyed his iPad on 25 December, days before an FIR was lodged against him, his mother, grand uncle and grand aunt in connection with the Rs300-crore fraud. The iPad contained much material helpful for the investigation including emails and even voice mail and SMS records.
According to one of the investigators what had been found so far was that he tampered with everything, in a tactical move, to ensure that none else got to know his secrets.
He added that Puri had maneuvered smartly, as when the bank was negotiating with him to get back the amount that he diverted from its customers to his own accounts, he found enough time to take such steps.
Meanwhile, according to sources, a team from the market regulator, Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) might question Puri, at the DLF-II police station where he is lodged.
