Health supplements and personal care company Dabur India Ltd is to start the sale of its products in the US, Canada and Mexico on Amazon's global marketplace this quarter, according to the two companies.
Dabur India will start with the sale of 30 of its products, including Vatika hair oil, Meswak toothpaste and Chyawanprash, through the Amazon Global Selling programme. It will add 80 more next quarter, Krishan Kumar Chutani, executive director (consumer care business), Dabur India, said. Dabur nets about 30 per cent of its revenue from global markets.
Amazon launched its Global Selling programme in May 2015, which it has been pushing to Indian brands in the past few quarters. The programme, which has 26,000 Indian sellers, has listed about 70 million products for Amazon's global marketplaces.
Amazon's India marketplace already features Dabur products.
The Jeff Bezos-led firm already has global selling arrangements with 60 Indian brands. These include dairy brand Amul, footwear brand Liberty Shoes, ethnic wear brand Biba and FabIndia, watch brand Titan, bathroom fittings company Hindware and ayurvedic products maker Organic India, among others. Patanjali Ayurved Ltd and Rooh Afza maker Hamdard Laboratories' products are also sold on Amazon.com, the company's marketplace for the US market.
"There is already a trend towards natural and ayurvedic products and it's time for the world to taste them. Not just non-residential Indians, we want to cater to local American consumers, too. The honey that we are supplying is specifically made for the overseas market, and more such exclusive products may be launched soon. While we will export some products from here, others will be supplied from our international plants like that in the UAE," Chutani said.
