Delhi post offices head in IT returns collections

Chennai: India Post's Delhi post offices have topped in collecting the number of IT returns (ITRs) by 31 October, 2006. They received 74, 824 ITRs followed by Maharashtra (68,275 IT returns) and Tamil Nadu (44,618)
A total of 412,278 IT returns were filed at the various post offices across the country. The finance ministry has decided to process the returns centrally so that refunds are made faster. Meanwhile representations have been received by the government from the Income Tax Employees Federation and Income tax Gazetted Officers Association with regard to their opposition to outsourcing of work of the Income-tax Department.
