Dyson unveils cordless vacuum cleaner Dyson Cyclone V10

Dyson unveiled its cordless vacuum cleaner the Dyson Cyclone V10 cord-free, at an event in New York yesterday.
The new machine, which costs around $499, will feature intelligent sensors capable of sensing altitude, barometric pressure, temperature and can even figure out the weather.
With its pressure sensors the machine knows whether the user is upstairs or downstairs. It is also super sensitive and can make out the altitude difference between the table and the floor.
It uses the information to make minute adjustments to deliver constant performance at different air pressures and aims to deliver the same performance whether it is used in a high-altitude city like Denver, or a low-lying city like Amsterdam.
With the new motor, engineers are able to rotate the cyclones and bin assembly through 90 degrees, into an in-line format, which creates a linear airflow path, improving the number of air watts of suction by 20 per cent.
In addition to its improved electronics and battery management system, the new machine is capable of vacuuming up to 60 minutes in mode 1 as it uses a trigger rather than an on/off switch.
According to CEO and founder James Dyson, the evolution of wireless and battery technology signals the death knell of full-size vacuum machines.

According to Dyson, the redesigned V10 electric motor in the machine spins at up to 125,000 RPM, which is so high a speed that the vacuum's impeller, the bit of the vacuum's compressor that rotates, has to be made with a stronger ceramic shaft instead of steel which would break under the intense G-forces.
According to commentators, battery life is really one of the great features of the machine - it can operate for up to 60 minutes on a single charge (which takes only 3.5 hours plugged in to achieve).
