Ford India to recall 1,000 Ford EcoSport diesel SUVs over starting defect
12 Jul 2013
Ford India is recalling nearly 1,000 diesel variants of the Ford EcoSport in the country over a defect in a device that aids starting the engine.
The recall comes barely a few days after the SUV was launched at a starting price of Rs5.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), and Ford is reported to have received good response. (See: Ford launches EcoSport at Rs5.59 lakh for base version)
Ford India said that it noticed the problem during routine checks and is now taking remedial measures to fix it. "As part of routine checks, we discovered a potential concern with EcoSport diesel variant related to the Glow Plug Module, which requires relocating the module."
''We are contacting customers to take their vehicle to their Ford dealership to have the work carried out," Ford India yesterday said in a statement.
The carmaker said that no accidents or injuries have been reported related to the issue and the voluntary recall is made to ensure customers' safety and satisfaction.
While the EcoSport was first unveiled in the concept form at the 2012 Auto Expo and went on sale last year in Brazil and China, Ford had delayed the India launch to late last month in order to localise maximum components.
