New Delhi: General Motors India has announced the introduction of the renowned Chevrolet brand in India.

The Chevrolet has the distinction of being one of the world’s most famous brands and the best seller in North America. Under the umbrella of the Chevrolet brand, GM India plans to launch an exciting range of vehicles specifically designed for the Indian market in the period ahead.

Says GM India president and managing director Aditya Vij: “The Chevrolet aims to become the smart choice in a mainstream market by delivering better value through styling, features and performance. The introduction of the brand in this market represents a significant milestone for GM in India and for the auto industry. This is also symbolic of the significant plans GM has for India. True to GM’s worldwide vision, we intend to make the Chevrolet the most admired and preferred automotive brand in India.”

Over the years, GM India has made an indelible mark in the premium car segment with the Opel, which has emerged as one of the strongest brands in the automotive industry. This is reflected in the strong brand equity that the Opel enjoys among its discerning customers. The Chevrolet will complement GM’s brand portfolio in India by offering superior value that would exceed expectations of the customers in terms of product performance, styling and quality.

The Chevrolet brand, in its 92nd year of existence and sporting the legendary ‘bow-tie’ logo, has been part of automobile folklore across the globe. Keeping with this tradition and spirit of the brand, GM India is launching a unique advertising campaign, ‘I am Chevrolet,’ to reach the customers.

Adds Vij: “GM has identified India as one of the key growth markets in the Asia-Pacific region although the industry is passing through a slowdown at this juncture. In our assessment, we will overcome the sluggishness soon and the market will grow and offer immense potential to companies that can offer quality products to the ever-demanding customers.

“We are in the process of introducing more models in the near future and widening our product portfolio. Gearing towards this, GM India has embarked on an ambitious programme to widen its reach across the country with a growing dealer network and authorised service outlets besides widening its product portfolio and expanding its manufacturing facilities. The Chevrolet will substantiate GM’s impetus to consolidate its presence in the Indian market and the Asian region.”

GM India is a fully owned subsidiary of General Motors Corporation of the US with its state-of-the-art facility located at Halol near Baroda in Gujarat. It is presently offering the Opel Astra, Corsa, Swing and the Vectra to its customers.
