Chennai: The US based $ 300 mn shoe marketing company Global Brand Marketing has decided to source high end shoes from India starting this June.
"The first year order value will be around $4 million," says Killick Sudeepto Datta, chairman and chief executive officer. According to him, Farida Shoes will be one of the likely suppliers. "We will be sourcing shoes for our brands Diesel and Nautica," he adds.
Traditionally India exports shoe uppers to the European markets. The decision of Global Brand Marketing is likely to spur the interests of other shoe makers/marketers in the US.
Last November officials from Johnston & Murphy and retail store Wal Mart visited India to explore possibilities of sourcing shoes from India.
