GM India reports 66 per cent YoY sales growth in April 06

Mumbai: General Motors India has achieved sales of 3,662 vehicles during April 2006. The sales comprise 1,787 units of Chevrolet Tavera, 310 units of Chevrolet Optra and 1,565 units of the Chevrolet Aveo. This marks a 66 per cent growth for GM India over the corresponding period in the previous year where sales stood at 2,214 units.
The Chevrolet brand grew at 82 per cent during April 2006 as compared to the corresponding period last year. During April 2005, 2009 Chevrolet vehicles were sold as compared to 3,662 units during April 2006.
"The sales of the Chevrolet Tavera and the Chevrolet Optra are to our satisfaction and going forward, and the market will see a lot of excitement with our Chevrolet brand. We are delighted with the initial customer response to our newly launched Chevrolet Aveo. The Chevrolet Aveo is fast emerging as the best choice in its segment in terms of styling, performance, value for money proposition and other product attributes," said P Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India.
The Chevrolet Aveo was officially launched across the country in March 2006 and is the first of the three new Chevrolet products debuting in the first six months of 2006. With the Aveo U-VA and Optra SRV joining it in the coming months, it is part of the largest expansion of GM India's vehicle line-up in the company's history.
Gearing up for a major ramp up, General Motors India's Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an exhaustive expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units in 2006 to provide world class vehicles made in India to the discerning Indian consumer.
GM India is a wholly owned subsidiary of global auto giant, the US-based General Motors Corporation. Besides the Chevrolet Optra, GM India manufactures the Chevrolet Tavera and Chevrolet Aveo at Halol on the outskirts of Vadodra in Gujarat.
